2018 was a huge year of progress for Coral Restoration Panama. Our stated goal for the year was to plant 50 artificial substrate structures in the ocean. We are proud to say that we exceeded our goal and planted 51! Additionally, we received our temporary permissions from the government of Panama to collect and farm coral to be reviewed after 6 months for renewal. Not only did we collect all coral needed to make our nursery sustainable within the 6 month timeframe, but we also received permanent permissions to work on our project by the Panamanian government. Our goals for 2019 include continuing to grow our nursery to be completely sustainable, starting our land based nursery, and becoming more engaged with community members to teach them about what we’re doing and train them in creating substrate structures to aid their own existence.
